Genomes
Learning Objectives
Main
◇ Assess the quality of an assembly.
◇ Knowing why you need an annotation.
Minor
◇ Know the main steps to assembly a genome.
◇ Know the limitation of a genome annotation.
Challenges
We are going to work with Dryas octopetala, a plant species with a rather small genome size. It's a fairly common alpine plant. Based on flow cytometer measurments, the estimated genome size is about 500 Mbp (2C).
❖ Challenge #1 Take a look at this version of the assembly. It's a good reference assembly or not, and why?
❖ Challenge #2 What do you think about this version. Here you will find more information Tree of Life.
❖ Challenge #3 Which one would you use for your own project? How compelete is the genome? What is currently missing?
